A couple of months ago, I had a close friend who nearly died while giving birth. I’ll spare you the gory details of it, but she and the baby are doing well now, alive and getting stronger by the day.
This blanket is made for Baby Xander. Something that the family will cherish.

Start Date: June 9th 2010 Finish Date: September 30th 2010 (3 months 21 days)
Notes:
09/21/2010 – Seems like it’s coming out a little small. Only after blocking can we tell I guess. Just started out the border. 100 repeats to go!!
09/29/2010 – Finito! The grafting was a little tricky, but it looks ok. Now it’s time to block. Ugh, I hate blocking.
09/30/2010 – Blocking. Help from Paula. Now all that is left is the applied I-Cord around the neck opening.
I don’t recall, but I think that I mentioned in one of my earlier post that I had something to post about a secret project that I was working on. Well, this is the post about it!
Right before Australia, my friends, John S. and Chuck B., Kyle and Gregg, Chuck W. and myself were invited up to Provincetown, MA for a fabulous weekend of knitting, good company and good food. Our gracious hosts were John C. and David. They own a beautiful home in Provincetown, a beautiful place for a mini vacation.
As an expression of gratitude for these 2 wonderful people, the knitters amongts us (Chuck in particular) decided to plan a collaborative afghan project for our hosts.
We decided to make a sampler afghan so that each knitter could take some yarn home and work their individual square. Chuck did an absolutely fabulous job mapping out these squares and picking out the colors. We got the patterns from this old vintage book by Bear Brand called the Knitting Primer – 50 Easy Knitting Patterns and Stitches. We got this book from a cute little LYS in Sebastopol, California.
We all started out in July…… but as I am such a slacker, John S. and Chuck W. made most of my square. I had a deadline (which is ANOTHER secret project) to meet. Bless their hearts.
But I still lent my efforts. I flew to LA to do some major seaming. Yes, I seamed about 80% of the project. Apparently, according to the boys, my Asian little fingers were better for seaming. Yeah, WHATEVER! LOL.
Pattern: Don’s Vest by Joyce Williams Book: Latvian Dreams by Joyce Williams
Yarn Brand: Harrisville Yarn Name: New England Shetland Yarn Colorway: Teak, Camel (1 cone each) 1 cone = 900 yards
Needle: Size 3 US (3.0 mm) and Size 1.5 US US (2.5 mm); Size 4 US (3.5 mm) to cast on tubularly Size: 39″
Notes
04/24/2010 Finally dried. Gauge after blocking is 4” to 31 sts. Making it a 39” chest. This is so weird because I would think that the stitches would loosen up after washing not shrink. And length from bottom to armhole is 12.5” + 1” for ribbing. Making it a little short for me.
04/19/2010 Posting as finished in Ravelry. It is currently blocking. Will have better pictures and an accurate blocked gauge measurement soon.
04/18/2010 Completed. Yahoooo! Finishing takes a LONG time.
04/1/2010 – Finished knitting. Now steeking and then finishing the ribbing around the v-neck and armholes.
Stayed pretty consistent with gauge BEFORE blocking at 30 sts per 4 inches on size 3.00 mm. (7.5 sts to 1 inch) This actually makes the vest smaller. Measured chest is 40” before blocking. Yikes. Will measure again after everything is off the needles.
09/30/2009 – Got a gauge of 29 stitches per 4 inches on size 3.00 mm. According to sizing chart, this would mean that the size I would make will be a 44” vest.
Tubular cast on with 4 US (3.50 mm). Ribbing with 1.5 US (2.50 mm).
18 stitches and 31 rows = 4 inches in Modified Linen Stitch
US 8 – 5.0 mm
564 yards (516 m) 8.5″ wide x 80″ long
This large scarf is worked with a stockinette base. Working with 2 colors in stripes, the slipped stitches pull up the color from the row below to make this cool pattern.
This scarf uses two colors of yarn. The blue is considered the main color (MC), and the variegated is considered the contrast color (CC). Use the colors as directed throughout the pattern – with MC or with CC.
Carry yarns along the side edge to avoid weaving in a lot of ends. Pick up the new color behind the old color before working the row with the new color.
